The SLA707xM(PR) is the latest Sanken production regarding stepper driver/controller for unipolar motors. It is really interesting and easy to implement. This is another design of the traditional SLA707xM stepper controller ic by Allegro/Sanken.  According to our experience the use of a stepper motor up to 1-1.5A/phase (particularly with software having a 'on-with-step' function) prevents even the necessity of a cooler connected to the ic.

Using other software (Emc2, Mach3) and/or using bigger motors the ic needs of an heatsink connected to its body.

In another section of the site there is a test of a board using such ic.


Naturally can be used any IC of the SLA7070M family according to our needs. Here follows the schematic and the final result of the board.

  

As you can see the board is  bigger than past designs. This solution will allow the positioning of a bigger capacitor (in the picture and schematics it is used a capacitor of 220uF/63V. The bulk capacitor is very important in any stepper controller schematics because each motor winding current is flowing through the sensing resistor (internal in our case) causing a voltage drop. Therefore the value of that capacitor can be even increased.

As told many times before, the SLA707xM family is very well engineerized, internal current sensing resistor, limited external circuitery, upto microstepping, pins compatibility, upto 3A/phase are the main characteristics.

The dip switch is used to select, accordingly to the ic of family soldered, the yearne. Regarding the SLA7078mpr the table sequencer is the follow:
